What is B.
Ed Course?
B. Ed Course is an undergraduate course which lasts for two
years. The full from of B. Ed is
Bachelor of Education. It is a teacher education system i.e. how a teacher should
teach the students of the school, what qualities a teacher should have etc.
Training is given through B.Ed course, in a word what are the duties of a
teacher is taught in B.Ed course. Usually a candidate has to complete
graduation in the subject he wants to be a teacher And only after passing the
graduation with 50% marks in total, he can be admitted in B.Ed course.

- 1 year B. Ed Course –
The 1 year BEd course is a professional course where a
teacher is trained to teach at primary, upper primary, secondary or higher
secondary level.

The two-year B.Ed course is a post-graduate degree course
followed by a professional course where candidates are given teaching training
at the secondary and higher secondary levels.
B.Ed Course (B.Ed) Admission
Qualification? –
Candidates who have completed graduation or master’s degree
can all apply for B. Ed course. However, there are some other eligibility
criteria that are discussed below:
Educational Qualification of B.Ed
Course-
- The applicant must have passed graduation (B. A / B.Sc./B.
Com) or post-graduation (M.A / M.Sc./M. Com) degree. - The applicant should have passed the graduation with an
average of 50% marks, but for the candidates belonging to SC / ST class there
is a discount of 5% marks i.e. 45% only. - Also, all those students who have graduated in Engineering /
Technology with Science / Mathematics, they need at least 55% marks. - Many students have less than 50% marks in honors degree at
graduation but if the total marks in pass and honors subjects are 50% or more
in total, then the student is eligible for B.Ed. - However, the most important thing is that a student cannot
do B.Ed at the same time while doing a course in any institution of West Bengal
in the same academic year.
Age limit –
- The maximum age limit for applying for B.Ed course is 35
years. In this case also the age limit for SC / ST category candidates is 40
years. - The age limit for candidates working in any job can be up to
45 years. - However, the age limit for physically disabled candidates
has been raised to 3 years only.
Application Fees for Admission to B.
Ed Course –
- In case of General Candidates: Rs. 600 / –
- In case of SC / ST / PWD candidates: Rs. 350 / –

Admission to the B.Ed course for the new academic year
2021-23 will start from next September and the application process is already underway.
The cost in government B. Ed colleges is much less, B. Ed can be done in
government colleges at a cost of 15 to 20 thousand rupees per year. However, in
private colleges, it can cost around Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh to complete the
entire course.
Admission Deadline for B.Ed for the
academic year 2021-23: –
WBUTTEPA issued notification for admission in B.Ed course in
the new academic year 2021-23 last June. Accordingly, the application process
for admission has already started from the beginning of August which will last
for a whole month.
After completing Job Opportunities B.
Ed Course: –
- If you have completed 50% marks in Higher Secondary and 2
years B.Ed Course, you can apply for teaching Job for Upper Primary
i.e. V to VIII. - After passing 2 years B.Ed course with 50% marks in
graduation, you can qualify to teach at secondary and higher secondary level. - Doing Integrated B.Ed course will allow you to sit for
teaching exams from primary to secondary level. But in this case teaching at
higher secondary level requires a master’s degree with an integrated B.Ed
course. - There are also job opportunities in various private schools
or English medium schools. However, the salary in private schools is much less
than in public schools.
